SEA DOG INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT BENEFITS THE OPPORTUNITY FARM FOR BOYS: JUNE 22 - SPRING MEADOWS GOLF COURSE - GRAY, MAINEY

PORTLAND, MAINE (June 12th, 2003) -- This year's Sea Dog Invitational Golf Tournament is sponsored by The Shipyard Brewing Company and will be a fundraiser for the Opportunity Farm for Boys in New Gloucester, Maine. Sea Dog is a division of The Shipyard Brewing Company in Portland, Maine.

The Sea Dog Invitational Golf Tournament will be held at 1:00 on June 22nd at Spring Meadows golf course in Gray. This is the first time this tournament has been structured as a fundraiser.

Opportunity Farm is this year's Peoples Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race's "Shine the Light for Kids" charity.

"We've been a supporter of the Peoples Beach to Beacon Road Race for 5 years but this is the first year we've raised additional funds for their selected charity," said Bruce Forsley, vice president of sales and marketing at The Shipyard Brewing Company. "Our president, Fred Forsley, is from Gray and has many close friends who lived at Opportunity Farm. When he learned that the Farm was the Beach to Beacon charity, he insisted we get behind the cause."

Shipyard Brewing Co. is auctioning an original painting entitled "Tall Ships off Eastern Promenade" by Maine artist Paul Black as well as a trip for two this November to the Ringwood Brewery in Hampshire, England where Shipyard's master brewer, UK native Alan Pugsley, apprenticed.

"When I got the call saying that Shipyard wanted to do this auction in support of our organization I was ecstatic," noted Ron Scott, president of Opportunity Farm.

"Shipyard has been an enthusiastic supporter of our race since its inception 5 years ago," said Meg Dempsey, race organizer and director of public affairs at Peoples Heritage Bank. "We are delighted by their initiative to help raise additional money and awareness for Opportunity Farm."

The on-line fundraising auction is running on The Shipyard Brewing Company's Web site (www.shipyard.com). Bidding will close at midnight, August 1, with the funds raised to be announced the day of the race, Saturday, August 3rd. Minimum bid for Paul Black's painting "Tall Ships off Eastern Promenade" is $1,000 (Value: Priceless!). Minimum bid for the trip for two to The Ringwood Brewery is $500 (Value: $2,100).

Contemporary impressionist Paul Black has been painting the Maine landscape for 20 years. "Tall Ships off Eastern Promenade" is a 26" x 42" oil on canvas. This painting was created in 2000 when the OpSail Tall Ships visited Portland Harbor.

The trip for two to England is part of The Shipyard Brewing Company's annual Boar Tour of London and the Ringwood Brewery in Hampshire, England. The trip runs from November 7 - 12, 2002 and the package includes airfare, hotel, transportation, and a Ringwood Brewery tour for two.

Fred Forsley and Alan Pugsley originally founded Kennebunkport Brewing Company and Federal Jack's Restaurant and Brew Pub in 1992, and established The Shipyard Brewing Company in 1994.
